Anyone who has dealt with traditional oncologists – those who prescribe full-dose chemo, surgery, radiation, or any combination thereof – is usually also given a little advice on dietary choices. The advice basically consists of following the recommendations of the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services – in other words, the Food Pyramid. Theoretically, the Food Pyramid looks pretty good.

But when it comes to alternative cancer treatments or prevention, there are some elements sorely lacking. In fact, those specific elements may well be among the reasons one gets cancer in the first place.

What’s Wrong with the Food Pyramid?

Let’s just take one of the standard recommendations – fruits and vegetables, at least five servings a day.

Okay, that’s good. But let’s have a closer look.

Per their guidelines, it doesn’t matter whether these foods are eaten raw, cooked, canned, or juiced. So, what’s wrong with that? Again, nothing on the surface, but the omitted information is pivotal:

Nutritional Value: Anyone who’s done a little research knows there’s a big difference in the nutritional value of fresh vegetables vs. canned. Also, if you’re going to juice vegetables (or fruit), you have to be aware that many juicers generate such high heat that they kill many of the nutrients in the food you’re juicing.

Bisphenol A (BPA): BPA is an endocrine disruptor which can mimic estrogen and, in so doing, disrupts the entire hormonal system, which is vital for good health. BPA is used in food can linings – so, along with the very dead food inside the can, you’re also getting a healthy (well, unhealthy) dose of BPA.

BPA has been declared a toxic substance in Canada and is banned in certain products throughout Europe. The FDA recently refused to ban it in the U.S., but the FDA is notoriously behind when it comes to testing, monitoring and regulating toxic chemicals. FYI, BPA is also in many personal care and cosmetic products, microwave oven dishes, dental sealants, medical devices, and it’s even used as a coating on cash register and credit-card receipts.

Pesticides, herbicides and synthetic fertilizers: Chances are, those canned fruits and vegetables you’re going to eat five servings of every day were grown with plenty of these chemicals. Even the President’s Cancer Panel recommends that we eat organic fruits and vegetables so we can avoid ingesting these potentially carcinogenic chemicals.

The Panel’s annual report also gives several other recommendations – including avoiding BPA, eating free-range meats that are also fed organic feed and are raised without antibiotics and hormones. The report is long, but you can skip to the section entitled What Individuals Can Do: Recommendations for a very useful, itemized summary.

Sugar Content: Cancer loves sugar, and some fruit is loaded with sugar. Some fruit has very high nutritional value that outweighs the sugar content, and some doesn’t. Bananas, for example, are loaded with sugar but are very low in the specific nutrients one needs to deal with cancer, and to prevent it.

Blueberries, on the other hand, are very high in some of those nutrients – antioxidants, for example – and are considered beneficial enough to use despite their sugar content. Long and short of it, someone with cancer probably shouldn’t eat a lot of fruit, and they should pretty much restrict their fruit intake to those with high nutrient value and low sugar.

Health practitioners who deliver alternative cancer treatments have long been aware of the necessity of the right diet – no matter which diet each practitioner may recommend.

Better Food Choices for Cancer Treatment

In my book, Cancer’s Cause, Cancer’s Cure, you will see that diet plays a pivotal role in both cancer treatment and cancer prevention. I also furnish you with specific dietary guidelines.

However, whatever your diet, choosing foods that are organic – free of potentially dangerous and/or carcinogenic chemicals, free of hormones and antibiotics, free of GMO-feed and feed grown with pesticides, herbicides and synthetic fertilizers – is a vital part of your cancer treatment, whether you’re going the traditional route, the alternative route, or a combination of the two.

When your body is dealing with cancer, it needs all of its potential resources available. Coping with and trying to eliminate dangerous chemicals is difficult under any circumstances and it can easily drain your physical resources, leaving nothing left to fight the cancer.

If you ensure that everything you put in your body is part of the solution, not part of the problem, it will go a long way to successful cancer treatment, and its prevention.

The information provided in this blog is essential to follow for a healthy anticancer lifestyle.

We are told that one of the big factors in cancer – both in its cause and its cure – is stress. Anyone getting cancer treatment is told to avoid stress, and to change their lives as necessary to do so. The degree to which stress is beneficial or otherwise is a complex subject, but whether you’re doing traditional or alternative cancer treatments, it is something that has to be dealt with. Here’s how.

You may be surprised that I would insinuate that stress might be good for you. Well, the fact is, there are two kinds of stress – good stress and bad.

Bad Stress is What America is Coping With

Let me give you an example of bad stress. This example, unfortunately, is something that millions of people in America are coping with right now – alcohol or drug addiction in their family. That situation is hard enough to cope with under any circumstances, but when you have cancer and are dealing with that as well, it becomes much more serious.

You’re constantly worried about the person you care about, about their finances, their relationships, their husband, wife or kids, their schoolwork, their job, their health, and perhaps about the possibility of them being caught and put in prison. Some people associated with addicts are also subject to domestic abuse. They’re usually at their wits end, don’t know what tomorrow will bring, and don’t know what to do about it.

That’s the bad kind of stress.

Good Stress is Entirely Different

A perfect example of good stress is being involved in an exciting and challenging project, one that’s near and dear to your heart, something that makes you look forward to getting up in the morning and gives you a sense of accomplishment.

But that good stress can sometimes, not always, have a downside – you might skip meals, not take the time to exercise, eat what’s handy instead of what you should, not sleep well or enough because you’re working out strategies that will enable you to win each little daily battle that ultimately wins the whole game.

And, yet, it’s that kind of stress gives you a sense of purpose. Really – a reason to live.

What’s the difference between these two examples? The primary differences are that, with the bad stress, it’s a losing situation that is not accomplishing anything of value. In fact, it’s destructive.

The good stress is something constructive, something that gives you a sense of purpose and accomplishment, something that you enjoy immensely and that seems worthwhile to you. And whatever that activity might be – whether it’s building a better mouse trap or making a beautiful quilt, there is a sense of winning.

Is that something you want would really want to give up? Stress or not? Probably not.

So, What’s the Real Solution?

First, realize that if you have ‘bad’ stressful situations, there is always something you can do about it. Decide you’re going to find a solution and get whatever help you need to do so.

Second, if the stress in your life is due to joyous activities, just do a little reorganization so you also eat well, sleep well, and tend to your physical needs.

And, by the way, one of the great benefits of alternative cancer treatments is that, unlike full-dose chemo, radiation and surgery, you often feel up to doing the things that really matter to you.

That’s a big step on the road to a cancer cure.

But many people have heard of alternative cancer treatments, as well as complementary and integrative, and are curious about whether or not they could be of help. The first step to making that decision is an understanding the terms.

Alternative Cancer Treatments

These types of treatment are simply something other than surgery, radiation or full-dose chemo. Alternative cancer treatments can be used alone – as the only type of treatment – or in combination with traditional treatments. There are probably hundreds of alternative cancer treatments; some work better than others, some work on some people and not on others, some have a lot of science behind them and some have very little. But there are some that get excellent results with a high percentage of those who use them. These treatments are often much easier on the body than traditional treatments, and focus on improving health as well as getting rid of the cancer.

Complementary Cancer Treatments

These are treatments given in addition to chemo, surgery and/or radiation. The term can be kind of misleading: it gives the impression that the complementary protocals actually treat cancer when, in most cases, they are an attempt to make having cancer or getting cancer treatment more palatable.

For example, in a big cancer center or hospital that delivers chemo, radiation and surgery, complementary treatment generally includes things like family counseling, methods of reducing stress or anxiety, improving your body image after a mhttp://www.drmortonwalker.com/wp-admin/media-upload.php?post_id=1121&type=image&TB_iframe=1astectomy, or classes on living with the edema that is often caused by lymph node removal. Some centers even offer acupuncture – but it is offered for relaxation or to relieve the pain of chemo, radiation or surgery, not as treatment for canhttp://www.drmortonwalker.com/wp-admin/media-upload.php?post_id=1121&type=image&TB_iframe=1cer. http://www.drmortonwalker.com/wp-admin/media-upload.php?post_id=1121&type=image&TB_iframe=1http://www.drmortonwalker.com/wp-admin/media-upload.php?post_id=1121&type=image&TB_iframe=1

http://www.drmortonwalker.com/wp-admin/media-upload.php?post_id=1121&type=image&TB_iframe=1

Integrative Cancer Treatments

Integrative cancer treatments often combine traditional with other alternative and complementary treatments. An important differentiation here is that practitioners of integrative treatment do not limit their treatment methods to things that make the treatment experience more palatable – they actually offer alternative treatment methods; things that, in and by themselves, treat and sometimes cure cancer.

In my book, Cancer’s Cause Cancer’s Cure, I quote a definition of integrative cancer treatment from the clinical journal, Integrative Cancer Therapies (ICT). Integrative therapy is the “scientific understanding of alternative medicine and traditional medicine therapies, and their responsible integration with conventional health care. Integrative care includes therapeutic interventions in diet, lifestyle, exercise, stress care, and nutritional supplements, as well as experimental vaccines, chrono-chemotherapy [adapting chemotherapy to your natural rhythm of sleep and awake time], and other advanced treatments.”

Because ‘alternative’, ‘complementary’ and ‘integrative’ are sometimes used interchangeably, it’s important to find out exactly what treatment is being referred to when these terms are used.

Some cancer centers, for example, will use the term ‘integrative’ when they don’t offer any actual cancer treatment other than chemo, radiation and surgery. In fact, they would never deliver a treatment that is not approved by the FDA and could get in trouble if they did.

There’s a lot to know about the carious types of cancer treatment. You would be wise to fully educate yourself before making a commitment to your treatment protocol. But, since we are all always learning more, bear in mind that you can always change your mind and switch from one type of treatment to another. Nothing is set in stone.

For more information on the various types of treatment available and their results, check out my book Cancer’s Cause, Cancer’s Cure.

And there are many things we still don’t have, that we would have if more people would open their mind to possibilities. Unfortunately, cancer cures are among them.

What kinds of things wouldn’t we have if someone hadn’t believed it was possible?

X-Rays, Airplanes and Radio: Lord Kelvin, the famous physicist who introduced us to the idea of ‘kinetic energy,’ said, “X-Rays will prove to be a hoax,” “heavier than air flying machines are impossible,” and “radio has no future.”

Nuclear energy: Albert Einstein said, “There is not the slightest indication that nuclear energy will be obtainable.”

New inventions: Sounds crazy, but Charles H. Duell, the commissioner of the U.S. Office of Patents said in 1899, “Everything that can be invented has been invented.”

Thoracic and Brain Surgery: Sir John Eric Ericksen, a British surgeon who was appointed Surgeon-Extraordinary to Queen Victoria, said in 1873, “The abdomen, the chest, and the brain will forever be shut from the intrusion of the wise and humane surgeon.”

Ways to Combat Germs: Pierre Pachet, Professor of Physiology at Toulouse said in 1872, “Louis Pasteur’s theory of germs is ridiculous fiction.”

Space Travel: A 1948 article in Science Digest stated, “Landing and moving about on the moon offers so many serious problems for human beings that it may take science another 200 years to lick them.”

Any science related to the existence of atoms: Ernst Mach, the Austrian physicist and philosopher who discovered shock waves and contributed to many other important developments, refused to believe in atoms. “I can accept the theory of relativity as little as I can accept the existence of atoms and other such dogmas,” he said.

And then we have the situation with cancer.

Cancer Treatment Denied by Established Science and Medicine

Literally hundreds of possible cancer causes and cancer cures have been proposed, tested or used for treatment. And some of them, several of them, in fact, actually work. And most of them don’t kill anyone – unlike the accepted treatments of chemotherapy, radiation and surgery. Some would argue that there are times when the accepted treatments are needed – and that may be true – but what about all of the other possibilities? And what about the times when the accepted treatments are not needed and actually do more harm than good?

Chemotherapy for cancer started in the 1940s. Radiation protocols for cancer started development in the 1950s, and tumor removal surgeries have been documented as early as ancient Egypt.

True, new chemo drugs have been developed, radiation protocols have been refined, and so has surgical technique.

But, essentially, these are the same treatments that have been used for many decades and, in the case of surgery, for millennia.

Is it possible that we now have space travel, can land on the moon and walk on it with relative ease, can split atoms and operate on someone’s brain, but have made virtually no progress on finding out more about the cause of cancer and in developing cancer treatments?

If the powers that be in science and the medical profession would stop denying the existence of any possibilities other than those currently accepted, other successful therapies would be available to all – and even covered by health insurance.

But, as an individual, you still have the choice of acknowledging the possibilities, thoroughly checking them out, talking to some of the many, many doctors who do believe in them, and possibly saving your own life, or the lives of those you love.

There are many books and practitioners available to help you on the journey to finding alternative cancer treatments, including my latest book, Cancer’s Cause, Cancer’s Cure.

Exposure and subsequent concern over medical research fraud is on the rise, and for good reason.

It’s now reached the point where blogs exist solely to cover retractions of published researchi.

An episode of 60 Minutes, featured above, also highlights the problem.

In this episode, they reveal the dramatic rise and fall of Dr. Anil Potti, whose cancer research at Duke University was heralded as a groundbreaking game changer.

It’s a perfect example of how fraud can occur anywhere. Even at the best institutions.

Dr. Potti’s work, which entailed matching a patient’s tumor to the best chemotherapy drug based on its DNA makeup, was the most exciting cancer breakthrough in recent history, according to many involved.

More than 100 cancer-stricken and desperate patients signed up for Dr. Potti’s trial. Unfortunately, two years ago, it became apparent that the method was a failure. Not only that, but as stated in the 60 Minutes segment, Dr. Potti’s discovery “may end up being one of the biggest medical research frauds ever; one that deceived dying patients, the best medical journals, and a great University.”

Dr. Potti May have Faked Both Credentials and Research Data

Questions about Dr. Potti’s research had been raised, but were cleared by a committee at Duke University. It wasn’t until a confidential source tipped off the editor of The Cancer Letter to take another look at Dr. Potti’s claim of being a Rhodes Scholar that the lies began unraveling.

Joseph Nevins, Dr. Potti’s mentor and coworker at Duke University for over four years confronted him about the accusation he may have lied on his resume. Potti admitted that he wasn’t really a Rhodes Scholar, rather it was a fellowship from Rhodes Scholars in Australia… Nevins decided to take another look at Dr. Potti’s original data, eventually concluding that it was “abundantly clear” Potti had purposefully manipulated the data.

Whenever the data disproved Potti’s theory, the data had simply been altered.

The claim that the novel procedure had an 80 percent chance of success was a complete lie, and patients in Potti’s trial died. Some of the surviving family members are now suing. Dr. Potti has stated that he “… was not aware that false or ‘improper’ information had been included in the research.” Duke University has also apologized for the trials, and has opened up about the case to serve as a warning example to other institutions.

But the greatest irony of all is brought up at the very end of the 60 Minutes’ segment. While patients did not receive any groundbreaking treatment, Duke University has stated that none of the patients in Dr. Potti’s failed trial were really harmed “because all of them received the standard of care in chemotherapy.”

And THAT, my friends, is the real “Biggest Medical Fraud” of all time.

It’s so big, 60 Minutes will not likely discuss that truth any time soon. In reality, virtually the entire cancer industry is one massive fraud, in the sense that it’s not really allowing authentic and inexpensive cancer cures that address the cause of the problem to come to market. They are virtually all violently opposed and condemned. It’s a massive for-profit industry, and unless a treatment revolves around a costly drug that can be patented, it will never see the light of day. The whole idea that the cancer industry is “searching for a cure” is a sham… because cures already exist. But they’re being massively suppressed.

Why Many Groundbreaking Cancer Therapies are Suppressed

It’s kind of sad to hear how Dr. Potti’s idea of using DNA-matching to customize treatments created such waves of excitement, knowing that similar gene-target therapies have been vehemently suppressed, simply because they did not involve expensive pharmaceuticals patented by Big Pharma.

Burzynski: The Movie tells the story of Dr. Stanislaw Burzynski, who developed a non-toxic gene-target cancer therapy called antineoplastons, and has been harassed by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for over 14 years in an effort to shut him down. His treatment could have helped save millions of lives over the last two decades had his discovery not been criminally suppressed by the U.S. government, as it has been shown to effectively help cure some of the most “incurable” forms of terminal cancer. The film is a powerful expose of the unscrupulous forces that work to maintain the status quo of the medical and pharmaceutical industry at any cost.

Why was Dr. Burzynski attacked while Dr. Potti was worshipped as a wunderkind?

Potti was working within “the standard of care,” matching chemotherapy drugs to the DNA of patient’s tumors, while Burzynski’s antineoplastons are non-toxic peptides and derivatives of amino acids that work as genetic switches. In short, Dr. Burzynski developed a cancer treatment that surpassed all other treatments on the market, and the FDA, the pharmaceutical industry, and the National Cancer Institute all knew it. But he was also the sole owner of the patents for this therapy, and these two facts combined threatened the entire paradigm of the cancer industry.

The cancer paradigm is based on very expensive machines and toxic drugs. There’s an enormous amount of money to be made in this paradigm, no one in the cancer industry, aside from Burzynski himself, stand to make a dime if his treatment is granted approval and goes mainstream. That’s why it has been suppressed, despite the fact that antineoplastons have been shown to be far more effective than the current standard of care. The film features several remarkable case stories of people who were successfully cured of cancer, but it’s when the clinical trial data of conventional therapies versus antineoplastons are stacked against each other that the benefits of antineoplastons become really obvious:

Systemic Corruption within the FDA Threatens Your Health

Unfortunately, our government plays a significant and ongoing role in the committing of this kind of scientific fraud. I recently commented on the fact that the FDA secretly monitored the personal e-mail of nine whistleblowers—its own scientists and doctors—over the course of two years. The whistleblowers, who worked in the office responsible for reviewing medical devices, including those for cancer screening, had warned Congress that the agency was approving medical devices that posed unacceptable risks to patients.

Jeffrey Shuren, director of the FDA’s Center for Devices and Radiological Health kept pushing for the Department of Health and Human Services’ (DHHS) inspector general to investigate the employees, accusing them of improperly disclosing confidential business information about the devices.

Shuren is also the official who oversees mercury dental fillings, which they have been fraudulently referring to as ‘silver fillings’. He had promised to make an announcement about dental amalgam by the end of 2011. But with just six minutes left in the work year, at 4:54 pm on Friday, December 30, the FDA conceded that no announcement was forthcoming – not in 2011, and maybe not at all.

I’ve long questioned the safety of mammography, based on compelling information from scientists and experts in the field. Here, we have a number of FDA employees warning Congress that the agency is placing patient’s lives at risk, due to internal corruption… and still nothing is done.

The fact is, a lot of what the general public assumes is “science-based medicine” is anything but. According to one recent poll for theBritish Medical Journal, one in 10 scientists and doctors claim to have witnessed colleague’s deliberately fabricating data in order to get their research publishedii. Back in 2005, Dr. John Ioannidis, an epidemiologist at Ioannina School of Medicine, Greece, showed that there is less than a 50 percent chance that the results of any randomly chosen scientific paper will be true! He repeated his investigation in 2008 and found that much of scientific research being published is highly questionable. According to his study:

“Simulations show that for most study designs and settings, it is more likely for a research claim to be false than true.”

Add to that the fact that the FDA is not doing its stated job either, and it should be quite clear that there’s really no one out there protecting your health from dangerous pharmaceuticals and medical treatments…

Notable Cases of Medical Fraud

While many believe Dr. Potti may go down as the largest medical science fraud case in modern history, we’ve seen several stunning cases in the last few years. Tragically, some if not all of them may have contributed to significant health ramifications and loss of life of many thousands of people:

Scott S. Reuben, a prominent Massachusetts anesthesiologist, allegedly fabricated 21 medical studies published between 1996 and 2008 that claimed to show benefits from painkillers like Vioxx, Celebrex, Bextra and Lyrica. His work was considered important in encouraging doctors to combine the use of painkillers like Celebrex and Lyrica for patients undergoing common procedures such as knee and hip replacements

Last year, autism researcher Poul Thorsen was charged with 13 counts of wire fraud and nine counts of money laundering. He also allegedly stole over $1 million from autism research funding between February 2004 and June 2008. He is said to have stolen the money while serving as the ‘principal investigator’ for a program that studied the relationship between autism and exposure to vaccines. He was involved in several key studies the CDC uses to support their claims that MMR and mercury-containing vaccines, among others, are safe. One of his papers on the subject, known as ‘The Danish Study’, is extensively quoted to refute the autism-vaccine connection

In October, 2011, the Office of Research Integrity at the U.S. Department of Health discovered that a Boston University cancer scientist, Sheng Wang, had fabricated his research findings. His work was published in two journals in 2009, and he’s been ordered to retract them. But important studies by other scientists like those at the Mayo Clinic, who based their work on his findings, could now see 10 years of their studies going down the drain as worthless…

In November of last year, a noted Dutch psychologist confessed to fabricating research data for years. According to an investigating committee, Dr. Diederik Stapel falsified entire experiments, and several dozen of his fabricated papers were published in respected psychology journals and promoted in the mediaiii.

In January, resveratrol researcher with the University of Connecticut, Dipak Das, was found guilty of 145 counts of fabrication and falsification of data published in 11 different journals.iv

How to Get Solid Information in an Era of Confusion

Ultimately, my take-home message here is that even if a drug or treatment is scientifically proven, all these examples make it crystal clear that this simply is not a guarantee of safety or effectiveness. Likewise, if an alternative treatment has not been published in a medical journal, it does not mean it is unsafe or ineffective. There’s a lot to be said for the tried-and-true remedies of old, even if they’ve not been rigorously studied by modern researcher.

I recommend using all the resources available to you, including your own sense of common sense and reason, true experts’ advice and other’s experiences, to determine what medical treatment or advice will be best for you in any given situation. Remain skeptical but open — even if it is something I am saying, you simply need to realize YOU are responsible for your health, not me and certainly not drug companies trying to sell their wares.

Seeing how it’s been well established that most drugs do absolutely nothing to treat the cause of disease, it would be prudent to exercise the precautionary principle when evaluating ANY new drug claim, as it will more than likely be seriously flawed or biased — and is most likely not in your long-term best interest.

If you’re facing a health challenge, I recommend seeking out a qualified natural health consultant. A good place to look for recommendations is at your local health food store. Get to know the people who work there, the owners, and those who frequent the store, and obtain a consensus as to who the best clinician for you is in your area. Word travels fast in the natural medical community, so if there’s a knowledgeable practitioner in your area that’s getting awesome results, his or her reputation will be known. Of course, when it comes to cancer, you’ll want to identify someone that is well known and respected for their work in treating cancer patients. If you don’t find one locally then scour the Internet and make calls to plenty of patients that the practitioner has seen.

The team tracked until 2006 the eating habits and cancer risks of some 80,000 men and women who were between the ages of 45 and 74 in the second half of the 1990s, including 788 who developed colon cancer during the tracking period, and divided them into five groups according to their meat consumption.

Women who ate some 80 grams or more of beef and pork daily had a 48 percent higher colon cancer risk than those who consumed less than 25 grams, the team said. The consumption weight is for beef and pork before cooking.

While no similar tendency was found among men, it said, men who ate some 100 grams or more of beef, pork and chicken had a 44 percent higher colon cancer risk than those who consumed less than 35 grams.

New numbers from the CDC show the market for antidepressants has exploded beyond even the wildest drug industry fantasies — up 400 percent since 1988, with the biggest growth among those who might end up using them the longest.

Teens.

Nothing like getting someone started on a lifelong habit early, right?

After all, that’s what this is really about — and teens, always bummed about something anyway, represent the perfect marketing opportunity: Their use of these meds quadrupled over 20 years.

But you’d have to be clinically insane to let your own kids take these meds, because the same antidepressants that can’t even beat placebos in many studies can actually INCREASE the risk of suicide in that very age group.

On the other hand, parents are too busy popping their own pills to notice — and, sorry ladies, but that’s especially true of mom: A quarter of all women between 40 and 59 are now on antidepressants, and I’d bet my white jacket that many of them are operating under the delusion that these drugs can help with menopause.

They can’t, that’s just a myth being pushed to sell still more meds to still more people who don’t need them.

The benefits of long-term vitamin C consumption in excess of the U.S. government recommended daily allowance (RDA) are widely acknowledged and include reduced risks of cancer, cardiovascular disease and cataracts. Higher-than-RDA vitamin C intakes have been associated with increases in HDL cholesterol, decreases in LDL cholesterol oxidation, decreased blood pressure and decreased cardiovascular mortality.

The first physician to aggressively use vitamin C to treat disease was Frederick R. Klenner, M.D., beginning in the early 1940s. Dr. Klenner successfully treated chicken pox, measles, mumps, tetanus and polio with huge doses of vitamin C. He used massive doses of vitamin C for more than 40 years of family practice.

Vitamin C is remarkably safe even in enormously high doses. Compared to commonly used prescription drugs, side effects are virtually nonexistent.

How much vitamin C is an effective therapeutic dose? Dr. Klenner administered up to 300,000 milligrams (mg) per day. Generally, he gave 350 to 700 mg per kilogram (2.2 pounds) body weight per day. Dr. Klenner emphasized that small amounts do not work. He said, “If you want results, use adequate ascorbic acid.”

Evidence documents Vitamin C as one of the best antiviral agents now available. Vitamin C can neutralize and eliminate a wide range of toxins. Vitamin C will enhance host resistance, greatly augmenting the immune system’s ability to neutralize bacterial and fungal infections.

Vitamin C is used to treat the following:
-Alcoholism
-Arthritis
-Atherosclerosis
-Bladder infection
-Burns and secondary infections
-Chronic fatigue
-Common cold
-Complications of surgery
-Corneal ulcer
-Diabetes
-Encephalitis
-Flu
-Glaucoma
-Heat stroke
-Heavy Metal toxicity- lead and mercury
-Hepatitis
-Herpes Zoster (shingles)
-High cholesterol
-Leukemia
-Lyme disease
-Mononucleosis
-Multiple Sclerosis
-Pancreatitis
-Pneumonia

Health authorities are constantly haranguing the public to get screened for breast, prostate, cervical, colorectal and many other forms of cancer because they say early detection is the best way to help avoid dying from the disease. But cancer screenings often lead to false diagnosis, which was the case recently with Cristina Fernandez, President of Argentina, who was sent home from the hospital cancer-free after having already had her thyroid gland removed.

According to reports, Fernandez had undergone surgery on January 4 to have her thyroid gland removed after doctors diagnosed her with thyroid cancer following initial tests. But tests conducted on her thyroid tissue after the fact revealed that there was actually no cancer at all. Needless to say, the “false positive,” as it is often referred to, will now require Fernandez to take thyroid hormone replacement therapy for the rest of her life as she no longer has a functioning thyroid gland in her body.

“This result was always within the realm of possibility. It does not mean that the original diagnosis was mistaken,” said Eduardo Faure, a thyroid cancer expert out of Buenos Aires, to Reuters about the situation. Apparently in Faure’s world, diagnosing a person with cancer when they really do not have cancer is still an accurate diagnosis.

To the rest of the rational world, however, Fernandez’ original diagnosis was, indeed, incorrect. And while some experts say this type of scenario is rare, it is actually quite common among potential thyroid cancer patients. According to Dr. Glenn Braunstein, director of the Thyroid Cancer Center at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, doctors commonly remove the thyroid gland if they suspect even as little as a 20 percent chance that cells in the gland might be cancerous.

In 2010, a study published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute found that cancer “overdiagnosis,” as they are more politely calling it, is a growing problem that is hardly being addressed by mainstream medicine. The researchers involved with that study found that at least one-quarter of all mammograms and about 60 percent of all prostate cancer screenings come up with false positives, which result in needless surgeries and life-altering treatments (http://www.naturalnews.com/028870_cancer_overdiagnosis.html).

Researchers publishing in the Canadian Journal of Physiology and Pharmacology (CJPP) have found that a diet enhanced with vitamin and mineral supplementation can lower the risk of developing precancerous colon cancer lesions by up to 84%. Colon cancer is the second most common form of the disease affecting men and women in the US, with nearly 150,000 new diagnoses each year.

Nutrition experts and alternative practitioners understand that cancer is largely a disease caused by poor lifestyle behaviors including a diet lacking an optimal intake of vitamins and minerals. Chronic illnesses including colon cancer are the result of many years and decades of low nutritional status, as support for a healthy immune response is suppressed. Scientists now provide compelling evidence in support of whole-food based vitamin and mineral supplementation to dramatically lower the risk of colorectal cancer.

The study authors used rats that were fed a high fat diet (20% fat intake) for a period of 32 weeks. Rats are commonly used for this type of research because they develop colon cancer polyps and tumors in a manner parallel to humans. The rats were divided into six groups and were subsequently exposed to different combinations of carcinogens and nutritional supplements.

The researchers found that the animals fed a high-fat, low fiber diet and exposed to a carcinogen developed pre-cancerous lesions of the colon along a pathway similar to that found in humans. The group of animals that underwent a similar treatment and diet, but were supplemented with a daily vitamin and mineral supplement showed an 84% reduction in the formation of pre-cancerous lesions and did not develop tumors.

This study is key as it demonstrates the importance of building a solid nutrient base over time to saturate cells and tissues in order to prevent common diseases such as colon cancer. The research authors concluded “multivitamin and mineral supplements synergistically contribute to the cancer chemo-preventative potential, and hence, regular supplements of multivitamins and minerals could reduce the risk of colon cancer.”

Health-minded individuals know the importance of obtaining a full range of vitamins and minerals from fresh, raw or minimally cooked foods to promote health. Extensive research is now mounting to suggest that higher amounts of nutrients obtained from a whole food organic vitamin and mineral supplement may be necessary to achieve optimal health and convey maximum protection against colon cancer.
